Nursing Beyond the Vital Signs

Nursing is so much more than simply popping a thermometer in a patient's mouth or recording a blood pressure. In my time as a nurse, I have participated in life saving efforts when time was critical, I have held a mother's hands when her newborn baby was being prepped for surgery, and I have looked into the terrified eyes of an elderly person in pain. Nurses literally go into battle, serving in military operations all over the world. They also learn and implement the latest in medical technology. This blog is to highlight nurses and prove that they deserve respect and appreciation for all that they do.

3 All-Natural Ways To Improve Your Vision

Have you been suffering from poor eyesight lately? If so, here are a few all-natural methods that you may want to consider trying in order to help improve your vision.

1. Be Aware Of Your Environment

There are many different environmental factors that can negatively impact your vision. Too many hours spent staring at your computer, tablet, or cell phone can put a real strain on your eyes. Bright fluorescent lights, frequently rubbing your eyes, and reading in dim lighting can also take a major toll on your eyesight. Smoking should also be avoided as it's known to cause many different health and vision problems.

2. Eat A Nutritious Diet

Eating a nutritious diet is not only great for improving your overall health but it's also an excellent way to help improve your vision. Foods that contain nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, zinc, and lutein can help prevent vision problems such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Leafy green vegetables such as spinach and kale, beans, nuts, eggs, and citrus fruits such as oranges are excellent sources of those particular nutrients.

While leafy green veggies are great for eye health, not everyone is a fan of the way they taste. A simple solution for this is to add spinach or kale to your morning smoothie. If blended well and mixed with other yummy ingredients such as fruit, you won't taste these vegetables but you will still reap all the health benefits from them.

3. Let Your Eyes Rest

In order for your eyes to be able to perform at their very best, it's absolutely crucial that you give them plenty of rest. Our bodies rely on a good night's sleep in order to help us feel well rested and rejuvenated, and that's especially true when it comes to your eyes. After a poor night's sleep, you are much more likely to experience eye twitching, dryness, and various other eye problems.

Another downside of not getting enough sleep is that you will be more likely to develop dark circles under your eyes. As I'm sure you are well aware, these dark circles can sometimes be rather unsightly. Getting adequate sleep can make a huge difference in how attractive you look. Whenever possible, you should try to get at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep each night.

There's no doubt that having to deal with vision problems can feel stressful and overwhelming. Fortunately though, trying even just one or two of these tips should help make things much easier for you.
