Nursing Beyond the Vital Signs

Nursing is so much more than simply popping a thermometer in a patient's mouth or recording a blood pressure. In my time as a nurse, I have participated in life saving efforts when time was critical, I have held a mother's hands when her newborn baby was being prepped for surgery, and I have looked into the terrified eyes of an elderly person in pain. Nurses literally go into battle, serving in military operations all over the world. They also learn and implement the latest in medical technology. This blog is to highlight nurses and prove that they deserve respect and appreciation for all that they do.

Things You Didn't Know Your Local Healthcare Clinic Offered

Healthcare clinics are a place where you can go if you are low-income and need healthcare, and they are able to treat a malady of conditions. From broken arms to pregnancy, healthcare clinics have qualified staff who can meet your needs. These clinics also often provide other services that you may not be aware about. Here are 3 examples:

Counseling and rehab

Many healthcare clinics have branches of service that include mental healthcare or even rehabilitation for substance and alcohol abuse. Like traditional healthcare clinics, these services are offered by licensed professionals, and you can receive treatment based on your low-income status. Treatment available at counseling centers includes:

  • domestic violence assistance
  • family and adolescent counseling
  • treatment for drugs and alcohol abuse
  • anxiety and depression treatment

Ask your local healthcare clinic if they offer these services, and if not, if they partner with counseling and rehabilitation services so you can still get the care you need if you cannot afford traditional healthcare prices and don't have insurance.

Dental services

Part of the healthcare industry is dental care. Your local healthcare clinic likely has a dental branch, where you and your children can get checkups, cleanings, fillings, and other treatments based off your income. If your family members need extensive dental care, such as surgical wisdom teeth removal or braces, these clinics will often refer you to partners who accept low-income patients so you can get the care your family needs in an affordable fashion.

Health education

Many clinics feature healthcare education classes free of charge. These classes include teaching you the importance of vaccinations, foods you should feed your family for their health, and classes for pregnant women preparing to give birth. If you are interested in ways you can care for your family's health needs within the home, your local healthcare clinic can guide you to free or discounted courses you can take in your community.

Your local healthcare clinic cares about your health needs, and provides many services that you can use to better your physical and mental health every day. Whether you suffer from an addiction and want to take rehabilitation classes, or you worry about your children's dental needs, your local clinic can guide you to the professionals who can assist you based on your income. Contact a representative of your local healthcare clinic to see what kind of extended care they offer their patients to see what is available to you.
